Everything I know about Disney Princesses
Before I write anything else, I want to tell you the most interesting thing I know about Disney princesses. A notoriously hard-to-understand America law is the "rule against perpetuities." Basically, if I'm writing my will can't leave my house to you and your children and their children until the end of time. Estates have to end. So I would need to pick a living person and 21 years after my the death of that living person, the estate has vest. Corporate deals fall under that rule. Often, they pick the children or grandchildren of famous people. Chelsea Clinton's kids have been used as measuring lives a lot.
What does this have to do with Disney Princesses? You might reasonably be asking. In one of the deals the Disney corporation made to screw with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the measured life is Lilibet, daughter of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and the only person who could reasonably be considered an American Disney Princess. (Meghan has given up her title but had been a duchess.)
In retrospect, maybe that wasn't the most interesting thing I know.
Moving on, I am morbidly fascinated by the Disney princess actresses who work in the parks. I am not a Disney person and did not even know this was a thing until I had a youth group kid attend this program.
Since I do know, I've read a few articles. Captain Jack Sparrows are not Disney princesses, but they are relentlessly harassed by straight women in the park. Given my opinions on Johnny Depp, that would take an whole essay of its own to unpack. It's probably not a surprise that men are just as gross with princesses themselves. Straight people, who knows?
The real princess drama plays out on TikTok. The corporation has very specific requirements for playing each princess, down to the fact that you have to learn the "autograph" of each Princess so if a kid and her friend get Sleeping Beauty's autograph on different days, they will match.
They have to behave within very specific rules, obviously. Because Disney might be on my side as far as Ron DeSantis is concerned but they are not a kind and gentle employer by any means. But then, Meghan Markle had harsh employers too.
